6th grade students at Prairie Lane Elementary School bring the news to their school every Wednesday morning through the use of multiple applications. They plan, write, edit, produce, and publish from the beginning to the end, each week. K-5 students and staff are updated on current happenings throughout the school, the weather, challenges between teachers and students, a furcast that highlights student pets, a top five, a morning meme, and more. The 6th grade students become "famous" Prairie Lane Panthers to the younger students.
Meeting the needs of talented math students can be challenging. While differentiation within the regular classroom is one solution, some students benefit more by accelerating a grade. Unfortunately, there isn't always staffing and/or transportation available to give these students what they need. A blended approach of learning (part-time face-to-face and part-time online) has been developed at Westside Community Schools to give these students what they need to excel in math. Students use a variety of technology resources to learn the content and display their understanding.
